Photoshoot Planning Sketches.
Photoshoot Planning Sketches.
For this photoshoot I will be taking a series of portraiture and documentary photographs that will be focused solely on my chosen sitter, in this case myself, as well as the themes of LGBTQ+ community, Transgender lives and experiences and Transgender representation within the art industry. For this project I intended to create a series of images that tell the story about my experiences growing up as Transgender, Bisexual male. In order to do this, I have considered creating a series of work based on self-portraiture which I will possibly combine with typography and found imagery in order to tell the story about my experiences growing up as a Trans male and the transition process and changes I have gone through throughout the years. As I intend to focus the majority of my photographs for this project on myself, I intend to create an almost timeline within my images through the combination of childhood photos and recently taken images. Since I want the main focus of my photographs to be on myself, I would be considering taking a lot of photographs using the close-up and mid-shot compositional camera angles. I hope that by creating my final major project photographs based on these themes I could spread more awareness with my target audience about the lives of transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming people and the struggles they go through during their every day personal life.
Since my photoshoot would be focusing on creating photographs of myself within my home
environment, I would be focusing the majority of the image on my chosen sitter, in this case myself. To do this I would mostly be focusing on the use of close-up to mid-shot camera angles to ensure there is little background information that could distract the attention of my target audience away from my sitter. However, I may attempt to take a couple photographs using a wider camera angle to attempt to fit multiple sitters within an image, however if this doesn’t work out the way I intend I will just take the photos separately and edit them together within my editing process.
I also intend to take some photographs that are a little more abstract in their meaning and the relevance to my chosen theme of focus for my final major project as I intend to create some photographs that document me doing things like cutting my own hair. Whilst this may seem a little out of place within the combination of found and new imagery, it is meant to highlight my fear of going to barbershops or hair salons due to the gender stereotypes associated with both places. I feel that by including photographs like this within this series of work will create a stark contrast between the childhood photographs and the different versions of myself I have been throughout the years whilst coming to terms with my own gender identity and sexuality. I feel that this could then give an almost behind-the-scenes detail to the process of transitioning from male to female, since people who aren’t a part of the trans community won’t realise how freeing a haircut can be when you start to accept yourself and your identity.
